I couldn’t have said this better myself. Whose purpose does it serve to turn away the highly educated and ambitious? We can’t really have the kind of “selective” immigration system some countries (Canada) do, but increasing this particular cap seems like a no-brainer for maintaining our competitive edge.
(Bonus question: What is the relationship between visa caps and outsourcing?)
“We have to welcome the great minds of this world, not drive them out of this country,” Gates said, repeating his earlier calls for a higher H-1B cap. “These employees are vital to American competitiveness. We should encourage them to become permanent U.S. residents; they provide the nation economic growth, alongside Americas native-born talent.”
