HR Management Article: Strategies for Saving Big on Health Care

As premiums continue to soar, HR has been struggling to reduce these expenses by competitively shopping for benefit rates, transferring premium increases to employees and evaluating alternative cost-saving strategies like consumer-driven health plans CDHPs and health savings accounts HSAs. In order to effectively administer these new health care cost control strategies, automating benefits enrollment and administration must be a top priority.

Seems obvious – but hard to implement “consumerism” without automating the underlying benefits communication and administration systems.  Yes – this is what we do, but a surprising number of large companies that throw up their hands and say “what can we do” when faced with large health care cost increases.   (But don’t want to spend any $$ to improve the underlying systems.)
