Big Employers Plan Electronic Health Records – WSJ.com

Registration required – but the Gist of the article is that Intel, Wal-Mart and BP are collaborating (with some others – unnamed) to develop and implement EMR for their employees.  The purpose is to give employees access to and control over their own medical information for better decision making.  This will be combined with a big effort on cost and outcome date to begin to drive rational consumption decisions.

Privacy advocates are  (surprise) against it.  Wal-Mart is looking at $1.0 Billion/Year health care cost increases.  Yes, that is $1.0 Billion INCREASE each year.
